Saturdays | 10:30am - 12:30pm

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the group will meet online via ZOOM.  Once we feel it is safe to meet in person, we will move the sessions to the church, located at 2431 Shannon Place S.E., Washington, D.C.  20020.

The $20.00 registration fee includes materials. Registration and Information about the weekly topics can be found on the GriefShare website at www.griefshare.org. To register, go to "Find a Group" and search for Revival Temple Church or put in 20020 as the zip code. While you are on the website, we invite you to sign up for the free daily email encouragements. You will find them informative and comforting.

Grief is difficult for everyone impacted by a death.  Everyone grieves differently and one person’s loss cannot be considered worse than another’s. GriefShare Support Group is a 13-week Christ-centered video-based ministry. GriefShare is built around three components:

1.      video seminar (offers expert teaching on topics important to people in grief)

2.      small group discussion (allows participants to discuss how the video concepts relate to their own experiences) and

3.      workbook (provides a video note-taking tool and a daily bible study for personal study, journaling and application of concepts presented on the videos).

Revival Temple does a great job of caring for grieving people in the congregation in the immediate days surrounding a death and funeral.  Meals are provided, a service is conducted, and cards or flowers are sent.  However, the griever needs more.  A few days after the funeral, most of the people surrounding the griever return to their daily routines.  They don’t understand the deep, prolonged impact caused by the death of a spouse, child, family member or close friend.  The griever needs ongoing support and encouragement, lasting months or even longer.  That’s the reason for GriefShare.

While there are several churches in the Washington, DC metro area that offer GriefShare, research has found that there are none in the Southeast or Ward 8 area.  Revival Temple serving as a host church will add a much-needed service to the Community as it is designed to reach and help people inside and outside of the church.

GriefShare Support groups are designed to meet year-round, providing the sustained support a grieving person needs.  Because GriefShare groups are led by caring lay people from the church congregation, this ongoing support can be offered without adding a major workload for pastors and church staff.  By offering GriefShare for three 13-week cycles per year, Revival Temple will be known as a place that understands the need and is available to help.  The weekly sessions are designed to be “self-contained” and “open”, meaning that a person can join the group at any point during the 13-week cycle.

At each GriefShare session, you will find encouragement and help in grieving the death of your loved one. No matter the cause of your loved one’s death, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand what you are feeling. You will learn how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief and how to cope with the normal emotions that come when grieving a death. You will learn valuable information on facing life situations, and you’ll gain renewed hope for the future. These sessions are open to any adult regardless of whether your experience is recent or not so recent. The group is led by an individual who has personally experienced grief due to a loved one’s death. The leader is trained in facilitating a GriefShare support group.
